Serenoa Repens Defined
The dwarf palm and source of the active herb used in saw palmetto preparations such as Permixon. Serenoa blocks various pathways in testosterone metabolism such as the conversion of testosterone to androstenedione as well as the conversion of testosterone to DHT. By itself, Serenoa repens is used in the treatment of LUTS. See the July 99 issue of Insights (page 2-3) for details on Serenoa repens.
